Bill Bailey

Charter Member Dr. Riley W. “Bill” Bailey Jr. from Ada, Oklahoma was initiated into the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity on March 5th, 1966. Brother Bailey played basketball at East Central University and was active when Phi Taus won the Homecoming Parade and Tiger Tangles. Brother Bailey graduated from ECU in the summer of 1969 and went directly into to the Air Force. He attended pilot training at Laredo Air Force Base near Laredo, Texas graduating in December of 1970. Brother Bailey was transferred to Barksdale Air Force Base near Bossier City, Louisiana and eventually to Vietnam. Brother Bailey had a remarkable 10-year career in the Air Force. He flew more than two hundred successful missions while in Vietnam. Brother Bailey reports fond memories of his time serving his country. He attended a year of Seminary after leaving the Air Force then began a twenty-five-year career as a commercial pilot at Southwest Airlines. He retired in 2007 and now owns and operates Little Glasses Resort and Marina on Lake Texoma.

Bill married Debra, the girl of his dreams in 1967. They have been married for almost 55 years and have two children, daughter Heather and son Riley, both ECU graduates.

Brother Bailey has been an invaluable resource for the Gamma Xi Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau both as an undergraduate and an alum. His leadership skills are exceptional and his knowledge of the history of the Chapter is impressive. His sense of tradition is inspiring. He has an ability to lead which transcends generations of Phi Taus and he is universally respected. Brother Bailey is responsible for bringing members initiated in the early years of the Chapter back into the fold and constantly looks for ways to improve our Fraternity.
